Our Plans
Kuranda Envirocare went through a major planning review at the end of 2005, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation after some ten years of operation.
New Goals
One outcome of this review was to restate our goals as an organisation and incorporate these goals in our constitution. Dr Bruce Wannan was responsible for the new statement. See Our Goals.
New Nursery
The decision by Jax Bergersen, the founder of Kuranda Envirocare, to relinquish her active role in the organisation in early 2007 prompted a further review of the organisation’s plans. A major decision was made to relocate the Envirocare nursery to public land in Kuranda. In principle agreement with the Kuranda District State College to make available a suitable area of land on the Education department land is being pursued and we expect to be reestablished at the new site by June 2010. In the meantime privately owned land site in Kullaroo Close in Kuranda is being used.A dedicated team of nursery workers have developed a competent and professional nursery operation. See Nursery.
New Website
Kuranda Envirocare is seeking through the upgrading of our website to use the potential of the internet to better communicate with our members and with all who are interested in and care for the natural environment. We expect that the work of developing this website will be rewarded by our improved ability to communicate easily and efficiently with people both locally and around the globe who are interested in and supportive of the work we are doing in the Kuranda area.
Facebook
Envirocare's coordinator, Sylvia, regularly updates our Facebook page with current and future news and events. Have a look at Facebook now by clicking the Facebook symbol at the right hand top of this page.
Same Practical Approach
Despite these changes, Kuranda Envirocare remains committed to the regeneration of the Envirolink Corridor, and provision of good quality locally sourced plants for our own and other projects. We will continue to seek funding to advance these enterprises (see Current Projects) and to involve members of the community in a variety of projects and issues that will assist Kuranda and its environs to become a place where the natural environment is indeed valued and protected.
