Rainbow Lorikeet
Trichoglossus haematodus
Screeching calls, darting and twisting fast flight patterns usually alert the viewer to this common but beautifully coloured lorikeet. Found in a diverse range of habitats, they feed on a variety of food sometimes close to houses where they are easily seen. Breeding: May – Sep in a tree hollow in a live eucalypt or dead callitris. Both sexes will incubate the eggs and the hatchlings have fine yellow down. |
