Ceyx pusilla 12-13 cm
The smallest of Australia’s kingfishers, this tiny bird is not seen often. It usually sits motionless on low secluded perches over rainforest streams into which it plunges for small fish, tadpoles or invertebrates before darting back to its perch.
Nests are in a small tunnel drilled into an earth bank, soft wood, termite mound or low in a tree beside water.
