Welcome to Kuranda

'Welcome to Kuranda' was the title given to a publication produced in 2003 by Kuranda Envirocare with funding from the Natural Heritage Trust paying for about half the cost of production. This is available as a loose leaf folder free of charge from Kuranda Envirocare, and is available to any Kuranda resident. If you wish to obtain a copy, please contact Kuranda Envirocare.

Much of the content of this compendium has now been made available on-line. (See Contents) The introduction from the original publication is reproduced here.

Welcome to Kuranda

This compendium has been produced by Kuranda Envirocare for new residents of Kuranda. It may also be of interest to existing residents, who wish to maintain and restore the natural environment.

Kuranda has one of the most varied and intersting natural environments in Australia. Its World Heritage areas are a magnet for tourists from all over the world, famous for scenery, vegetation and wildlife. However, as residential development expands, our environment is being changed, often for the worse. This booklet has been produced to provide new residents with the information that will allow them to protect the natural beauty and diversity of our shared environment. A number of people have worked to collate the information enclosed, and every effort has been made to ensure accuracy. However, should you find any errors, please let us know so that they can be corrected. We hope you find it both interesting and valuable.
