The Envirolink Corridor is the major revegetation project within the Kuranda area. A large length of the riverbank and rail corridor area is being revegetated as the entrance to a corridor for cassowary, linking the Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest areas on both sides of the Barron River. The riperian strip is itself a corridor with cassowary signtings and or scats seen in the riperian strip in the Myola rea and along the walkway linking on to the Barron Falls National Park.
The Myola area is a 'hotspot' for biodiversity with several new endangered species , a rainforest frog and a palm , occuring in Warril Creek and various other creeks in this area. A project to link these creeks is important for the rainforest frog survival and is also part of Kuranda Envirocare's effort to support the BRICMA Barron River Green Corridor project - attempting to revegetate the length of the Barron River.
The Grow Project is an initiative of Kim Maiorano, an ex local woman now living in Sydney. Kim has a passion for the environment and this rainforest area in Myola. Kuranda Envirocare is partnering with Kim in this initiative to establish more rainforest habitat in the Wet Tropics area. The Grow project allows members and supporters to sponsor trees, have them planted and cared for on public land till they have overcome the competing weeds and are on their way to becoming mature rainforest in the future. The sites are planted and monitored and sponsors have the opportunity to view progress via reports on this website and visit the plantings. They are also able to acknowledge their support for the environment through the use of The Grow Project logo.
